Pals Paper Colour Suite

Here's a card I whipped together for a friend of mine.
I decided to enter the sketch challenge over at Pals Paper Arts.
And I really wanted to try out the Colour Suite Challenge over at

I pulled out my old stash of vellum as it fit the colours in this challenge.
I hear that Vellum is a returning trend, so I thought I'd try it out.

The Stamp, ink, embossing folder, and paper are all from SU.
The die cut is from Spellbinders, and that flower sticker
is from Basic Grey.

Nacho Average Paper Players

Well this was a fun card to make.  I was at Michael's yesterday and found these little tags in the dollar bin.  When I saw the colours over at Nacho Average Challenge, and the sketch with the tag over at the Paper Players, I knew I had a winner.

The sentiment and embossing folder are from SU.  The little tags are from Heidi Swapp, the Button is from Basic Grey, the little bird is from Making Memories, and the doily, bobby pin rose, and canteloupe tag are from the dollar bin at Mike's.

Card Concept Seize the Sketch

So I sat down today to try out a new challenge blog
called The Card Concept.  My style for this card is

Clean and Layered.

And I really liked the sketch at Seize the Sketch.
But once I sat down to create it didn't seem to come together for me.
Anyway, this first card is my entry into these challenges,
but the one below was another one I tried.

You see, this one below didn't seem to photograph well, and that
little flower embellishment just looks too vanilla compared to the other whites
in the card.  I could NOT get it to stop standing out, so I decided to try again, and the
one above is my final card.

For seize the sketch, I changed up the star medallion to a banner.
It just seemed to work better with the heart banner.
For the card concept I started with red, because of the cute
little red cabin in the inspiration photo, and decided to make a
Valentine's card.  I embossed the red card stock to 'add texture' for
the card concept, as well.

Most of the product on my card is from Stampin' Up! except for that cute heart banner from Basic Grey and the "us" sentiment sticker from Little Yellow Bicycle.

Colour Q Combo #226

So I tried something new this week.
I pulled out some paint and attempted to make a mixed media page.
I'm not completely satisfied with the paint, but I was so inspired to follow the sketch below (from Sketchabilities) that I just had to give it a try.  I also printed out some digital antique typewriter keys for the 'You are just my type' challenge over at the Paper Issues Blog.    Also, don't forget to hop on over to Colour Q and check out the inspiration from the Design Team.

Mojo Monday #329

Today is the 50th birthday of a good friend.
His wife is throwing a surprise party for him tonight.

I wanted to try out this week's Mojo Monday sketch.
I used some old Build-a-Brads to come up with the number "50".

I made this little birthday medallion with my scorpal and a scallop edge punch.

Colour Q Challenge #225

This week we have an earthy colour combo for you over at the Colour Q.
I scrapped this adorable photo of my children with their Crooked Smiles after their first cavity filling at the dentist.

Freshly Made Sketches #119 and Seize the Birthday

I felt like some challenges this weekend.
Today I managed to whip up this little card for the sketch over
and for the anything goes birthday challenge over at
I love that little tilted panel, but it sure challenged me.
So I modified the sketch to fit a portrait card instead of a landscape one.
(does that make sense?)

Here's a closeup of my little embellishment cluster.
I punched out the butterflies and stacked them.
The ice cream cone brad is a piece of paper from
American Crafts put in a Stampin' Up! Build-a-Brad.
The other brad and the button are from Basic Grey.

The sentiment die cut is made by a local gal here in Vancouver

Sunday Showcase

Welcome to Sunday Showcase.  This week I am showcasing a ribbon collage.
I used this technique a lot this past Christmas.  I found that you really needed to add a variety of textures, and colours for this effect to work properly.  Above I have used seam binding ribbon, organza, wide taffeta and narrow taffeta ribbon and a strip of patterned paper cut like a flag.

Thanks again for stopping by,

Sandra

Pals Paper Arts #188

I've been desperately wanting to play with my newest kit
And because it's a school themed kit, I have actually made the
thank you cards for my kids teachers a few months early.
I know,  any excuse for a card right??

This adorable kit is called Paper and Glue
and it's by Echo Park paper Co.
I tried out the sketch at Pals Paper Arts this week for inspiration.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Paper Players colour challenge

So I took a quick moment to whip up a little card for this week's
colour challenge over at the Paper Players.
I just can't resist the combo of these two greens together.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Colour Q and Creative Scrappers

I really love the colour combo this week over at the Colour Q.
I put together this cute page of my daughter's first visit to have some cavities filled.
I didn't have any embellishments to fit this page, so I found some images on the internet, printed them out, and used them as embellishments instead.
I have been trying to make more paper scrapbook pages, instead of my usual digital creations.  The only problem, is that I am still trying to improve my ability to photograph them.  So below, you can see my image that was posted up on the Colour Q website.  I really like how vibrant the colours are, but I washed out the white strips on the top and bottom of the page.  If you check out the photo below this one, you can see more detail, like the crimping on the white strips, but the photo is very dark and dull looking.

Anyway, its' a work in progress right?

Don't forget to hop on over to the Colour Q and check out the fabulous creations from the Design Team.

I used this layout from Creative Scrappers to make my page.

Wow Such Fun

I've been scrappin up a storm lately.  I seem to have a new found bout of energy after checking out all the manufacturers blogs and seeing all the new stuff being released for CHA this week.
This page was made using a paper stack from American crafts, some Polaroid looking frames from my stash and that little journaling banner from My Minds' Eye.

I tried and tried to get a good photo of my page, but I just don't seem to have my technique down yet.  I'm getting better, but I might try again.  The problem is that here in Vancouver, it's usually very cloudy and dark in the Winter, so natural light is rare.

Anyway, this little layout is for a sketch challenge over on the Pagemaps blog.

Sunday Showcase

Welcome to Sunday Showcase

This week I am showcasing two cards which feature homemade bows using organza ribbon.

These ribbons are very challenging for me because they are so bulky, but I found that if I folded the ribbon in half it was much easier, and then used scissors to create a gap in the ribbon to stick the brad through the middle.

Mojo Monday #327

Here's a little card that I put together for this week's Mojo Monday sketch.
That cute little Birthday sentiment is made right here in Vancouver by Dee's Distinctively: A Cut Above.
I used the same cute paper and stickers from Bo Bunny's Key Lime line.  Then I used various retired buttons and brad's from Stampin' Up! and Basic Grey to finish up the card.

I really like the combination of rusty red with dark teal.  I'm ususally not an Earth tones kind of gal, but this paper definitely drew me in.

Thanks again for stopping by today!

the Deconstructed Sketch #133

Here's a little card I made with some new papers I got recently.
It's from the Bo Bunny Key Lime Stripe line.
There's some embellishments from Basic Grey and the card stock is from Stampin' Up!
I followed this sketch from Deconstructing Jen.
I started out following the sketch exactly, but I just could NOT figure out how to get that bow above the middle frame.  So I settled on the double-ribbon sentiment sticker on the top right.

Colour Q Challenge #223

We have a funky colour combo for you this week over at the Colour Q
Hop on over and check out the fabulous work of the Design Team.

I made a quick card this week.  It's a bit crazy around my house right now.  We just went back to school on Monday and my hubby and I are both full-time teachers, so I didn't have a lot of time to whip up a page.

I used these cool embellishments from Basic Grey.  I just got a cool combo pack.
Then I used some stamps  from Heidi Swapp and some ink from Stampin' Up to meet the colour requirements.  The paper I used was SU and Echo Park.

Sunday Showcase

Welcome to Sunday Showcase.  Here I will feature specialty cards all year long.  This week I am featuring a Christmas card.  This is one of my favourite cards from this past Christmas.  I used the Pepermint kit from Crate paper for the cardstock and the doily trim, then I used some label stickers from my stash and a scallop die cut from some green vellum.

thanks for stopping by,

Sandra
