It's an autumn palette over at the Colour Q this week.  I found some cute photos of my kids out hiking with me a few weeks ago.  This page is called "My Backyard", because it's only a 5 minute walk from my house to the trail head.  I live in an area that is at the forests edge of a large city.  We get lots of wildlife in our yard including bears, coyotes, cougars, racoons and of course skunks and squirrels.

Colour Q Challenge #259

Well it's Tuesday and time for another challenge over at the Colour Q.

Let me explain this page a minute.  I took these photos of my kids at the beach last week.  We've been having a warm and sunny September here in Vancouver.  And there is not school yet as the teachers have been out on strike since June.  As I am both a teacher, and married to a teacher, it's been a tough financial ride for us.  But spending the morning on the picket line gives me time to spend with my own kids.  And taking them down to the beach last week gave me a lot of unexpected joy during a really stressful time.  

The great news for me was that I woke up this morning to the news that the labour dispute has finally come to an agreement in the wee hours of the morning, and on Thursday we we vote to ratify it.  So hopefully the schools will be open next week - YAY!

It doesn't matter where you live, I'm sure you can agree that we should expect our government to follow the law, and when the break the law they should be held accountable.  And this was a major part of why we were out on strike.  I did it for the future of my children's education.

So enough of the political rant, and back to my page.  I really like using the dark background.  I think it really sets of the rest of the colours on this page.

Colour Q Challenge #256

A few weeks ago we went on a multi-day camping trip.  Yes my back survived multiple days on an air matress.  It was a lot of fun.  We went to a nearby provincial park.  It was very organized for the long weekend.  This particular weekend they hold their annual lantern festival every year.  It was very organized and a lot of fun.  The parents wound up doing most of the work, but Brad kept bragging to everyone that he was married to a papercrafter so I was bound to come up with something great.  Well, it wasn't horribly original, but I made a solid lantern.

Anyway, I digress...

This week I used the latest kit from Mye De Leon, to create this great page below.

So I'm not so organized this week - sorry.  Here's my sample for this week's Colour Q.

So I just LOVE this colour combo this week.  Purple is my favourite colour.  And Concord Crush is my favourite Stampin' Up color EVER!!!!!

Can you believe that Colour Q is having their 250th challenge???  Crazy I know.

I absolutely LOVE this colour combo.  You have a choice of using black and white and one of the colours from the dress, OR all of the colours from the dress - I chose the latter.  Hop on over to the Colour Q to see what the DT have come up with.

I had this adorable photo of my daughter and I taken last week.  We did a tour of one of the local mines.  It was a copper mine but they closed down in the 1970's and then reopened as a museum about 10 years later.  I have driven by this mine a million times as it's on the way to Whistler, our local ski destination, but I had never been there before.   It was fun!

I also happened to have just bought this great kit "Girls Time Out from" Pixels and Co.  Talk about perfect timing.

 I also used this template from Fiddle Dee Dee Designs to put it all together.

You may know that purple and green is my favourite colour pairing in the world.  They were even my wedding colours - almost 10 years ago.  When I saw this colour combo that Arielle had put together, I was immediately excited.  I just happened to have this adorable photo of my daughter from a few weeks ago, and so once I found this freebie template from Mye De Leon this week, I sat down and whipped up this page in no time.
